Net Zero is Not Enough!

At PacCLEAN, our mantra since 2021 has been “Net Zero is Not Enough”.

At the beginning we were outliers in this view, but now the global experts agree with us, including the UN Environment Programme, the World Resources Institute, and the state governments of Washington and California.

The simple truth is that the world did not cut emissions fast enough, so now just achieving “Net Zero” emissions is not enough to keep Earth’s climate in a safe and hospitable zone below 1.5 degrees of warming. We are going to need very large scale Net Negative emissions in order to clean up a great deal of the climate pollution that we have spilled into the environment.

We absolutely need to dramatically reduce emissions as fast as we possibly can, AND we need to start cleaning up climate pollution immediately through carbon removal. It will take decades to build the carbon removal capacity that we need, so there is no time to waste!
